Fountaindale Public Library
"Adventure to Book Island"
The
Fountaindale Public Library District's summer reading program for 2006 was
titled "Adventure to Book Island" and had a tropical
theme. The purpose of the program was to encourage young children to
read by stimulating their senses with exciting demonstrations and
interaction that was at their level of understanding. Fountaindale
Public Library came to Scottie the Parrot to carry out this task.
Scottie had a very busy day on June 20, 2006 as he performed a total of
four educational shows. Two at Fountaindale Library in Romeoville,
Illinois and two at the Fountaindale Library in Bolingbrook,
Illinois. Children and parents were invited to attend in this
ticketed entry event. All four shows were filled to room capacity
Children were taught about parrots, what they eat, unique
characteristics, and what they are capable of. The program was
highly interactive with children helping and being part of the show with
demonstrations and participation. The above photo was generously

event, and shows Nicky taking part in one of the many demonstrations.
